Since 1972, the Sacramento Area Black Caucus, Inc (SABC) has been at the forefront of advocacy in our community helping to secure and protect the civil and human rights of our people.

Every year the diverse list of Caucus activities grow. These activities have affected important aspects of the lives of Black people in Sacramento; from lobbying officials, boards and commissions as to the needs of our community, supporting issues which are beneficial to our people and vigorously opposing those which are not.

The SABC has continued to sponsor and support Black community institutions that have taken positions on important issues and cultural programs such as; Black History Month, Kwanzaa, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s Birthday Celebration and Malcolm X Commemorations. We understand that celebrating our experiences is essential for our growth as culturally strong people.

Whether it is ensuring that our children have the best educational opportunities or that our neighborhoods have appropriate recreational and educational facilities, or whether it is representing job related grievances, the Sacramento Area Black Caucus has demonstrated its commitment to the Black Community. What we believe…

•We believe that African Americans have a right to live dignified lives.
•We believe that African Americans must aggressively pursue their rights
•We believe that African Americans organizations are instruments to be used, to accomplish our goals.
•We believe that African American organizations should always represent the interest of Black people.
•We believe that African Americans must support those organizations that are on the frontline of the struggle for dignity and our eventual liberation.
•We believe that parts of the United States is racially prejudiced, chauvinistic and that the nation does not embraced the underserved and the disenfranchised, therefore, it is necessary for African Americans to organize and collaborate in order to protect and advance African American interests.

SABC’s committees: Education, Membership & Community Outreach, Fundraising, Political and Sunshine/ Friendship and a variety of Ad Hoc committees.
